Vintage Pair of 1956 California License Plates, Original Paint, Near Mint
These plates were originally used on 1956 through 1962 automobiles in California. The plate design changed in 1963. These plates are made of steel and measure 6" x 12". This pair of plates only had one 1962 sticker applied to the rear plate, which tells me they were only on one car, and probably for a short time, based on the excellent condition of the original paint. You can see the marks on the paint left by the bolt heads that were used to attach these plates back in 1962. I was born in So Cal in 1956 so that's why I bought these plates. I have had them safely stored away ever since. I personally called the California DMV on Friday, March 17, 2017, and told them the plate ID (XHC 713). The DMV representative, who was familiar with the Year of Manufacture (YOM) Program, said they have no record of this plate in their system, which means you can apply to actually use these plates on your 1956 through 1962 model car. You will need to complete State of California Form: "YOM California Form 352" (available online) and submit it to your local DMV in order to register these vintage plates. If they say, "We have no record of that number in our system, " they are currently clear.
